1 review for A. Wright Bushcraft Knife Rosewood End Cap – Blade 10.5cm

  1. John Fenna – Shooting Sporter

The Bushcraft Knife from A Wright and Sons Ltd combines the “modern classic bushcraft” design of the knife itself and the skills of the Sheffield knife-maker. Each knife is individually made by apprentice trained cutlers and every step of the process done in-house by a Sheffield manufacturer with a history of making knives dating back to 1947.

The knife is made from 4.5mm thick 01 carbon tool steel with a ground through “scandi” grind edge and a drop – almost spear – point shaping to the 4” long blade.

The steel is hardened to 56/58 Rockwell to give great edge retention, along with ease of sharpening. The 4.5” handle is of full tang construction with the scales mounted with twin brass and steel bolts and a brass lanyard tube, while the sheath is a sturdy leather item with a sewn and riveted belt loop and a tube for mounting an optional “fire steel” or sharpening steel.

Overall, the fit and finish of the knife was pretty good, although the edge grinds were not even, and the knife proved very comfortable in the hand, and excellent for a wide range of tasks from food preparation, through whittling to heavy cutting and batoning. The back of the blade struck showers of sparks from a firesteel and even produced good sparks from natural flint.

Weighing approximately 7.5oz, the A Wright Bushcraft Knife has proved comfortable, versatile and very strong – a great all-rounder.

Available with a handle in Rosewood (as tested, Antler, luxury Snakewood or Capped Rosewood, this is a good choice of knife for anyone wanting a tough and classic field knife that looks good and handles very nicely too!
