Gerber LMF survival knife – Original Pattern

The LMF was a high-performance, survival-orientated knife that was small and light enough to be ideal for hunting, backpacking and other outdoor activities frequently purchased by Army personnel.

The LMF was designed with a full tang 13mm, high carbon blade, 5mm thick with a smooth spine. The overall length of the knife is 27mm. The sharpening angle is 40 degrees compound (20 degrees either side)
The handle is constructed of DuPont Hypalon, a highly comfortable, shock absorbing material and provides a very comfortable and positive grip, it is impervious to moisture and extreme weather conditions.

The LMF Survival knife is designed for Heavy Duty work and will cope with digging a hole, chopping and cutting undergrowth for making shelters and tools and many outdoor uses. Its precision cast guards, butt cap pommel and blade have a non-reflective finish. With a Rockwell Hardness of c54-56 it holds a fine edge very well. The knife and components of this era were all made in the US.

Sheath Features: Bianchi belt fastener. The belt clip provides quick, secure attachment to regular and web belts and meets military specifications. DuPont Cordura ® material for light weight and long wear; a tough hard rubber welt ensures that the blade won’t cut the sheath and a Leg strap to keep the sheath in place.

Condition wise, the knife looks unused with light if any sharpening. The handle grip is clean and intact. Full clear markings to the reverse of the blade, some marks to the front of the blade, possibly as a result of sheathing over the years. The sheath is dusty with some rust fowling to a rivet. the cloth logo is fine, clean and not torn, all pop fasteners are working well and solid.

This knife is a collectors item, now discontinued by Gerber. This knife was the go-to unit for the US Army.
