When my sharpener was delivered, I took it from the packaging and thought it was a joke, it was so small – but not too small to use!! I still can’t believe to this day that it does what it does. It it the only sharpener I use for my knives and scissors. It is so easy to use and so portable – I keep it on my keys because I use it every day

This is a very useful tool if you are out in the field and need to restore the edge of your knife without having to take your best water stone with you! It does the job of sharpening your knife well but in my opinion, if you want to get a really good edge and don’t mind paying for the privilege, get a Lansky sharpening system and a strop. It’s not cheap to buy the kit but I don’t think you can get a better edge. After I’ve finished with the fine stone on the Lansky system, I strop the blade using Solvol Autosol metal polish as I find this works best. It gives an absolutely astonishing edge!

Made in North Wales, this home-grown knife and tool sharpener will quickly sharpen the bluntest of non-serrated knife blades, axes, scissors, secateurs, etc. and can be used left or right handed equally easily.
The Blade-Tech knife and tool sharpener measures only approx 3” x 1” and is as light as you like, comprising 2 blocks of tungsten carbide riveted onto a hard anodised aluminium “handle”. These tungsten carbide wedges are mirror-finished and set to give a V-notch where they cross. Drawing your blade through this notch sharpens both sides of the blade, but for scissors you use the notch between handle and carbide to sharpen just one side to give the correct blade geometry. Full instructions are given, and it is very straightforward.
The tungsten carbide blocks really do remove steel from a blade surprisingly easily, and even the lightest pressure when using the sharpener is very effective. Using excessive pressure will take off steel too fast and can wreck your blade, so be careful! As with all sharpeners, getting a good technique takes practice – in this case not too much – to get the best results.
If the blade you are sharpening with the Blade Tech has been honed to a different angle than that of the Blade-Tech setting, you may find it takes a while to re-profile the edge, but after the first sharpening it will only take a couple of light strokes to put a shaving edge back on your blade.
Light, compact and frighteningly efficient, the Blade-Tech knife and tool sharpener is available in 4 colours, comes with a belt pouch and full instructions and costs £10.
